Tennis Assessments

On paying your joining fee for the tennis club, you will receive a FREE 30 minute tennis assessment. Within this assessment the coach will give you a rating from 1 (advanced) through to 6 (beginner). On the coaching programme, each course, ‘pay and play’ session and social session will be given a rating category. On receiving your rating, you are eligible to book on or sign up for any course or social session that is designated to your rating category.

Juniors can come along to a FREE ASSESSMENT SESSION every Friday from 4.00 - 5.30pm. For more details about this session please call John Garland on 01462 675444.

CLUB RATINGS

There are 6 categories ranging from complete beginner to top-level club player. On joining the club, you will receive a free 30-minute tennis assessment. The coach will assess your game and grade you accordingly – this ‘club rating’ relates to the level of the adult and junior tennis programme.

Adult Rating
Description
1
ADVANCED
Players who are able to demonstrate a high level of quality within the four main areas of the game; tactical, technical, physical and mental. They compete on a regular basis at top club level.
2 INTERMEDIATE
Players with a strong technical and tactical base, who play regular competitive singles and doubles. These players can demonstrate consistency within a pressurised situation and adapt their game styles accordingly.
3 INTERMEDIATE
Players who compete regularly in social singles and doubles, showing consistency throughout the range of strokes, from serve through to volley. Players are generally involved with a club team.
4 INTERMEDIATE
Players participating in social tennis, who are able to play a game involving the correct service practice, rallying and proper games scoring. The next step for these players would be participation in a low-level team match.
5
IMPROVER
A player with limited technical and tactical ability, who requires coaching to develop these skills further in order to play a consistent game. Someone who has played some time ago and wants to brush up on the basics.
6
BEGINNER
A complete novice whose experience of the game is little or none. Those who require coaching on the basic strokes, tactics and rules of the game.

You must have a ‘club rating’ before you are able to book onto and participate in any of the courses and social sessions. This is for the benefit of each and every participant, to ensure the appropriate level of play and well-matched coaching sessions.
